Microsoft :

Microsoft did extremely good job in coming up with more matured/innovative tools and technology in the past 5 years. It is just amazing how much Microsoft delivered to IT industry in these past few years and sometimes it could be little overwhelming too. My goal in this article is to explain key benefits of these new technologies and help everyone to quickly get a hold of them.

UNIX:

UNIX is a computer operating system. An operating system is the program that controls all the other parts of a computer system, both the hardware and the software. It allocates the computer's resources and schedules tasks. It allows you to make use of the facilities provided by the system. Every computer requires an operating system. UNIX is a multi-user, multi-tasking operating system. Multiple users may have multiple tasks running simultaneously.

Linux :

Linux is, in simplest terms, an operating system. It is the software on a computer that enables applications and the computer operator to access the devices on the computer to perform desired functions. The operating system (OS) relays instructions from an application to, for instance, the computer's processor. The processor performs the instructed task, then sends the results back to the application via the operating system.

Explained in these terms, Linux is very similar to other operating systems, such as Windows and OS X.
